Cindy (Sturm) Menard - First D3 Women's XC National Champion
As we get ready for the 2024 D3 XC Season, we take a look back at the very first D3 XC season.
In 1981, D3 as we know it began. Cindy (Sturn) Menard of Westfield State claimed the first title. She joins the podcast to recap her time at Westfield State, her start in running, and the importance of team culture.
She credits her love of running to her Dad. He got her started in running at a young age. Mix in some success during her high school days and she was hooked.
She initially went to the University of Alabama where she won 2 SEC Cross Country Titles.
Unfortunately, a family tragedy had her transfer schools and enrolled at Westfield State to be close to family. Her new team was supportive in her trying time.
She resides in Westfield, MA and is reminded of her great times running in college.
