Emma Kelley: Breaking Records
We’re continuing to collect stories from this years Indoor National Meet, and this week we bring you WashingtonU’s Emma Kelley.
Emma Kelley is the latest 800m phenom reshaping the landscape of D3 middle distance running. While most athletes showed up in Virginia Beach to race the fields, Kelley came to duel the clock.
While supporting her team’s championship ambitions in the relays, her main mission was the indoor 800m record, and after cruising through prelims she achieved just that, running a solo mission 2:04.13, winning the race by over five seconds.
In this episode we talk through Kelley’s weekend. How she handled the pressures of expectation, and the anticipation of her team’s championship ambitions.
We also go back to analyze her progression from a 2:18 high schooler to a 2:04 National Champion. But we don’t just look back, Kelley who will run for Wisconsin next year, is not only looking forward to her outdoor campaign, but continuing to enter more and more races with deeper competition.
The sky seems like the limit for Emma Kelley, and we’re excited to continue following her throughout her career.
